WORDING, TIMING AND TIPS

Before you send it.

A friend, the maid of honor or a family member usually hosts the bridal shower, and the invitation sets expectations for a gift-giving party. That makes it the right place to mention the registry, a theme like “recipe shower” or “stock the bar,” and whether it’s a surprise.

Share the link with the whole guest list at once, or email it through GatherRibbon and see who has opened it. Each reply can include a note, which is a lovely place for guests to send the bride a few kind words.

What to include

  • The bride’s name, or both partners for a couples’ shower
  • Host names
  • Date, time and address
  • Registry details
  • Any theme, and what to bring for it
  • Whether it’s a surprise, and an RSVP date

When to send it

Send bridal shower invitations four to six weeks ahead. Showers usually take place two to three months before the wedding.

Questions, answered.

Who hosts a bridal shower?

Usually the maid of honor, bridesmaids, a close friend or family. It’s also perfectly fine today for the couple’s mothers to host.

Can I put registry information on a bridal shower invitation?

Yes. It’s standard on shower invitations because the event centers on gifts. A short line with the store or website name is enough.

Should shower guests be invited to the wedding?

Yes. Inviting someone to the shower but not the wedding is considered a faux pas. The usual exception is an office shower thrown by coworkers.
